ghGolf is a game of skill. Driving a golf ball over several hundred yards to a small hole, no more than a few inches in diameter and sinking the golf ball into the hole.  Being able to do so with the fewest number of strokes is something that have driven people mad in the persuit of a perfect game. If you are really good you can finish a game under par ( 72) , but that is a feat usually reserved for the professionals.

Folklore suggest golf was invented in the 12th Century in Scotland near the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews. It then was formulated and adjusted over the next few hundred years as it became a full fledged game. The first golf course was at St Andrews and actually had 11 holes. Players would play the 11 holes to the end and then turn back and play them again for a round of 22 holes. At some point a few of the holes were deemed to short and combined into other holes for a total of 9 holes. Thus a round became 18 holes of golf where it has stood since then.

Golf has grown dramatically since its early creation and nw has millions of players world wide.  There are more than 30,000 golf courses worldwide and more than $60 billion is annually spent in pursuit of the sport.  Some of the sports greatest players have contributed dramatically to its growing poularity. Players such as Jack Nicholson and Tiger Woods are names that almost everyone is familar with.  Thier accomplishments on the green have propelled them to superstardom and wealth.
